Why

Tinsel is typically made from mixed materials like plastic and metal coatings, which cannot be separated during the recycling process. This means it contaminates recycling streams and can damage sorting machinery. Reusing it is the best option, and if it’s no longer usable, it should go in general waste.

Did You Know

Tinsel was originally made from real silver in the 1600s before plastic versions became common.
